Sportswriter Bill Littlefield and editor Glenn Stout selected Korosec's "Goofy golf" for the collection, which is in its eighth year. The story explores the unlikely world of Jeff Smith, a professional Putt-Putt player from Dallas.
The book culls its selections from more than 350 national, regional, and specialty publications. This is the second Observer piece published in the well-regarded series.
Korosec, who usually writes about things other than sports, joined the Observer staff in 1996.
Another Observer staff writer, Robert Wilonsky, has also been honored for his sports writing. Wilonsky was a finalist in the prestigious Excellence in Sports Journalism Awards contest, sponsored by The Center for the Study of Sport in Society at Boston's Northeastern University.
Wilonsky was nominated for his "Balls" column, which appears every other week in the Observer.
