Sorting out Flickerstick, Kid Chaos, The Riverboat Gamblers, and promoting Slobberbone

Scene, heard

While we're straightening out things, in last week's Street Beat ("Run, don't walk," July 20), while writing about Flickerstick's inclusion on a new VH1 series, Bands on the Run, we forgot to mention one of the band's members, Rex Ewing. If you remember, Ewing also did time in such bands as The Bat Mastersons and the Shag Nastys. He is not to be confused with the fictional "Rex Ewing," who briefly set up shop at Southfork Ranch during Dallas' fourth season, claiming to be the illegitimate son of Jock Ewing. This Ewing is real, and plays guitar. He also enjoys long walks on the beach and Scrabble...

In the same vein, when we said the Mike Weibe was the singer for both Kid Chaos and The Riverboat Gamblers ("Street Beat," July 13), we were wrong. See, while Weibe and the singer for The Riverboat Gamblers look virtually identical--even down to their fingerprints--they are not, in fact, the same person. The Riverboat Gamblers are instead fronted by Weibe's cousin, Teko Buller. (See, we can play along.) Check out the similarities for yourself by picking up a copy of Kid Chaos' new album, Love in the Time of Scurvy. It's uncanny...

Rock shows in the immediate future: Red Animal War, The Mag 7, and Budapest One perform at Curtain Club on July 27, followed by Chomsky, Pleasant Grove, The Peenbeets, and Macavity the next night; Brave Combo, Corn Mo, and The Dutch Treats hit the Gypsy Tea Room on July 29 for--that's right--a pajama party; Pinkston, Crash Vinyl, and Stereo Rookie play Club Clearview on July 29; and Honky, Rock N Roll Disciples (featuring ex-members of a lot of bands, including Pump'n Ethyl), and Clutch Cargo rock Trees on July 27. Over and out...

But wait, there's more: Slobberbone performs at Tower Records July 29 at 3 p.m. (before appearing at the Ridglea Theater that night); and Jetscreamer has its own in-store gig at Good Records on July 28 at 6 p.m. Fun for the whole family, if the whole family likes going to see bands, and occasionally drinking like they invented it.
