Less Is More

A Christmas to Remember is most moving when it’s not trying to be memorable

As the librettist, Jay Dias must assume some responsibility for this show's distracting moments of excess, because composers Daniel Humbert and Clayton Stang have created a subtle score that enhances the sadness of the biographical material. Whether their dexterous tunes will prove will be hummed decades from now by people who've never even seen A Christmas to Remember--is a question for the ages. For my taste, they were just unmemorable enough to let the story, the performances, and the voices dominate my impression of the production.
