Metal and Stone

"A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do." This is why artist Terry Stone abandoned life as an advertising art director and began to direct her own experiences into three-dimensional sculpture. When one finds his or her voice as an artist, it shouldn't be avoided, and we're glad Stone didn't.

Saturday through October 26. The artist reception is 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, with a free gallery walk from noon to 8 p.m. for the DADA Fall Gallery Walk.

The first time I met Stone I was a sales clerk in a small shop on Henderson, helping her put together an outfit for her latest opening. As an aspiring artist myself, meeting her made a huge impact. For the first time, I had just met an artist who was incredibly happy and fulfilled in her life and art. Stone made me realize that people really can transport themselves from work-a-day to artistic culmination. To speak with her is to share with someone grounded, humble and inspired, but with an air that she is still amazed she's creating something people want to see. Something people should see.

Stone's creations are welded experience, color and industrial material. She says of her exhibit See Saws that it's a collection of "three-dimensional observations of the stuff that is constantly a buzz in my world." Her rendering of life stories is colorful, whimsical and mature.

Her exhibit will open at the Boyd Gallery on Saturday during the Dallas Art Dealers Association Fall Gallery Walk.
