NYC is the apple of Openís eye

 3/21
"Fashion. Art. Music." While it could be argued that the previous quote proves redundant under the umbrella of art itself, the bar/lounge Open is covering each base this Friday with NYC3 (three, as in cubed). Complete with a dance atmosphere supplied by sultry NYC personality DJ Penelope Tuesdae (who has been known to spin in various stages of undress), projected photography courtesy of Daniel Woodroffe and a fashion show created by the Deep Ellum street armor outlet Starcat, think of NYC3 as Studio 54 crossed with The Factory and Alexander McQueen. For better and for worse, New York City doesn't conjure the same images that it did even a decade ago, but the multimedia event promises to combine equal parts debauchery and class, which is a big part of The Big Apple's allure to begin with. Our license plates already read "State of the Arts," and here's a chance to be somewhat literal about the tagline...at least for one evening. Y'all come "be a part of it" now, y'hear? Open is located at 2805 Main St., and cover's only $5. Call 214-747-OPEN. --Matt Hursh

Such a Doll
Barbie's taken a lot of flak over the years. So what if she's got permanent blue eye shadow and she's always on her tiptoes? Even proportionally inaccurate dolls deserve love, too. Luckily, March 22 is Barbie night at GayBINGO. Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Parkway, starting about 5 p.m. Cost is $15 for 10 games. Call 214-540-4495. --Rhonda Reinhart

Party for Won
Some things shouldn't be watched alone: Super Bowls, the Oscars and porn. Seems our bash will have to hold one more year, as the Magnolia has kindly invited us--and the rest of the city--to attend its big-screen bash. It's the Uptown Dallas Academy Awards Viewing Party, and it's one of many. So bring your drinks into the theater and place your bets; we're putting our life's savings on The Hours. For what, we have no idea. It begins at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Magnolia Theater, 3699 McKinney Ave. --Robert Wilonsky

Out of Date
There's really no other way to say it. Dating sucks. Volumes could be filled with stories of dates gone wrong--first ones, blind ones or otherwise. It seems that no one is immune. But the folks at 8minuteDating think they have the answer: eight dates in one night. You could meet the love of your life, they say, and enjoy complimentary appetizers. Technically, the appetizers aren't complimentary, since the cost of the event is $28.88, but they need some way to lure you in. What do we know, though? We're still single. The event happens Monday at 7 p.m. at Ben's Half Yard House, 7102 Greenville Ave. To sign up for your eight great dates, call 469-855-9682. --Rhonda Reinhart
