Like it hot and heavy? Well, things are going to be loud and dirty at Texas Stadium this weekend. (It's almost the same, right?) Supercross, the off-road motorcycle race, is coming to Texas Stadium, which granted has no roads, but it does seat 35,000 fans, an element apparently as important as the brown stuff trucked in to be sculpted into dirt roads. Regarded as the "king of extreme sports," Supercross includes races that typically involve riders reaching speeds of more than 60 mph and attempting jumps as high as 70 feet. This year's record-setting tour has been drawing an average turnout of more than 49,500 people. Part of the draw is certainly 17-year-old James Stewart, the youngest main event winner in Supercross history. Also worth noting is teammate Ezra Lusk, who gave reigning champion Jeremy McGrath a serious run for the title. With high-flying action, mud, bikes and a seating area known as the "treadhead" section, it doesn't get more exciting than this. Football spiked with estrogen
This is what you've been waiting for because, truth be told, the baseball around here blows and the basketball team is soft. And, really, who the hell cares about hockey unless they win the Cup? Right. So this is it; football is back. Helmets. Pads. Tackling. Grunting. Patting each other on the ass. Oh, and sports bras. Sure, the Cowboys played like women last season, but that's not what we're talking about. This time around it's actual women's football; the Dallas Revolution of the Independent Women's Football League have "kicked off" the inaugural season. (See what we did there? With the puns?) Catch air with Discovery
If you were meant to fly, you'd have been born with wings, right? You saw Dogma, didn't you? Bloody wing stumps? Ill-fitting jackets? Even that ubiquitous pinup pair, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, couldn't make it work. Short of Hollywood special effects, earthbound humans get the thrill of flying only in some sort of aircraft, and nothing gets your spine tingling and your heart soaring into your throat better than a close encounter with a private plane. The U.S. Flight Academy will take you up this Saturday during a one-hour, introductory "Discovery Flight." They'll put you in the cockpit, alongside an FAA-certified flight instructor, and you'll taxi the plane, use the radio, take off and maneuver in flight. The hands-on experience costs $45 and takes off every hour April 12 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Denton Municipal Airport, 4850 Spartan Drive. Up All Night
At last, an event for the rest of us. By us, we mean dissolute smokers who stay up too late but remain relatively fit through running and walking: The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life blends exercise and cancer awareness.
