Stars on Ice

They’ll spin right ’round

11/20
When your child is transfixed by the Winter Olympics and even has a teddy bear pair named Torvill and Dean, you've probably got a future ice skater on your hands. On the other hand, she might be a horrible klutz and end up working at a weekly newspaper. We're not speaking from personal experience here. To thrill your little ice princess (or prince) or relive your unfulfilled childhood fantasies, check out the Midwestern Figure Skating Championships. Junior- and senior-level ice skaters will compete for a chance to enter the national competition in Atlanta. See them glide effortlessly November 20 through November 22 at the Dr Pepper StarCenter, 2601 Avenue of the Stars, Frisco. Tickets are $13 to $25, and discounted family packs are available. Call 214-349-4476.--Michelle Martinez

You Wheelie Got Me
11/21
It's time to get a new ride. The family's growing, and that Ford Tempo may no longer be enough to wheel your kids around the city. Luckily, we've found an event where you can preview some fancy family wheels, and it ain't Huffines. Head to the International Motorcycle Show at Dallas Convention Center, 650 S. Griffin, Friday through Sunday to check out a variety of scooters, dirt bikes and ATVs, and make sure to see the Ball of Steel Stunts Team put dozens of worldwide motorcycles through their paces. Oh, you thought we were talking about minivans? Please. Gas mileage and cargo space have nothing on airborne turn radius and flammability. Tickets are $5 and up; check motorcycleshows.com for more info. --Sam Machkovech

Kick Ball
Women learn some fancy footwork
11/23
Soccer is a sport that's perfect for women. There's little contact, lots of running and such, but it still holds as much athleticism and grace as any ballet. Well, you know, when the thing's done right. But, sad to say, this athletic discipline is far too often adopted by Women Who Suck at Sports. And it's a crying shame. It really is. Do us all a favor; don't be one of the sad, faceless masses of the WWSS. Instead, attend the North Texas Women's Soccer Association's Free Soccer Clinic to learn the basics so you can get on the field and represent, sistas. The clinic is Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Walker Van Guard School, 12535 Nuestra Drive. Remember to wear comfy clothes so you can run and get dirty. So, no heels. Tote some water along, too. Call 972-407-4573. --Mary Monigold
