Before the flute even presses against the lips, a tingling mist flutters from the delicate bubbles. Enchanting champagne, the mender of worry, the lover of laughter. It lingers on your tongue and lifts your mood, transforming a stern face into a blooming smile. After a glass or two, the buzzing conversation brings happy-go-lucky giggles and picture-perfect expressions. There's no better place to experience these impressions than Jeroboam, located in the heart of downtown at 1501 Main St. It'll be festive spirits galore on Monday during the Holiday Champagne Tasting jubilee. A little champagne 411: Most prefer a dry, standard brut because it's known for being so great. But never fear, sweet drinkers, you'll find sec and demi-sec are just as pleasing. The bubbles originally came about by mistake; funny how things work out. Just in case you don't want too much sparkle going to your head, there will be an array of champagne-friendly hors d'oeuvres. Gays and lesbians (and their straight friends who like to party with them) looking for an alternative to the same old Oak Lawn bars on New Year's Eve can head north for the Collin County Area Gay Outings' "54 to 2004" fund-raiser. The Eisemann Center will be divided into five rooms with different themes and music. And for those who just absolutely have to put in an appearance at "the bars," then a shuttle will provide transportation back and forth to Oak Lawn all night. The Dallas Museum of Art fits a century's worth of celebrating into four months of events. It's partying like it's 1903 through 2003 with the centennial exhibition and celebration Passion for Art: 100 Treasures 100 Years. Classic works by Vincent Van Gogh, Edgar Degas and Paul Cezanne are shown with Tatsuo Miyajima's modern electronic installations in a time line of the museum's most significant art and newest acquisitions. Passion for Art focuses on several themes: geometry, body, mask, at home, machine, luxury, music and dance, mortality, cosmos and transcendence. Cultural, family and film events are an ongoing part of the celebration, which culminates in a 100-hour party on January 8. Passion for Art: 100 Treasures 100 Years shows through March 14. Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, plus 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays. Admission is $8 to $10.
