This ain't your grandpa's game of bingo...unless, of course, your grandpa is a hot-to-trot drag queen with killer legs and a love for all things fabulous. If that's the case, then we want an invitation to your next family reunion, but we also think Gramps would love Dallas' latest installment of GayBINGO this Saturday at the Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Parkway. This John Thomas Gay & Lesbian Community Center fund-raiser, which has seen monthly installments in Dallas for more than three years, sticks to its far-from-traditional formula of cross-dressing entertainers on roller skates, audience participation and variants on normal game play. Would you honestly expect a straight line to win this version of Bingo? June's costume theme is "Come Fly GayBINGO," so expect plenty of jokes about frequent-flier miles and the mile-high club. Cross-dressing isn't required, but if that grandfather of yours shows up in a stewardess outfit, make sure he checks his, um, luggage at the gate. Lip gloss, eye drops, an orange candle and sleeping gear are all on the packing list for a journey through the chakra system, according to hosts of a retreat presented by GalleryArtSpace. Before you gather your power, you must gather a list of seemingly random slumber-party supplies. But no one will dip your hand in water at this one. The urban retreat will help inspire and guide you through the next month using the cycles of astrology and more. The way we party has changed since 1865. Forget horseshoes and catchball; we're spelling freedom with dodgeball and the BarKays. Juneteenth is always huge here, but this year Fair Park makes it a little bit bigger with the Stone Soul Picnic, the annual party hosted by Radio One Dallas, home to KBFB-FM 97.9 "The Beat" and KSOC-FM 94.5 "K-Soul." Part of A Day in Fair Park, this free concert and family day features arts and crafts, blues and gospel performances, a huge children's playground with waterslides and dodgeball, and basketball contests hosted by DJs Tony B and Big Bink. Bring Aunt Eunice and the crazy twins and hang with Steve Harvey, Tom Joyner, Tony B., Lynne Haze, Smokin' Kevan, Axion Jackson and more on-air personalities. You can do the picnic basket thing or enjoy the turkey legs, nachos, ice cream and other goodies for sale at the event.
