Remember that time you left the black Sharpie in your jeans pocket and the cap came off and ruined an entire load of laundry and your mom's sparkling white washer? She made you scrub the tub with rubbing alcohol, and you got such a head rush, then such a headache, and the crap still wouldn't come off, and you were banned from bringing home laundry forever. When we think of indelible impressions of the non-Sharpie-in-the-laundry kind, we remember a life-size photo of Whoopi Goldberg mostly submerged in a bathtub of milk. We imagine John Lennon, curled in the fetal position, naked, lying beside Yoko Ono. We picture Jim Morrison, cool and hot, on the cover of Rolling Stone. The uncommon vision of photographer Annie Leibovitz, now in her fourth decade as a chronicler of the famous/infamous, impressed our giant, bulbous brains with images as indelible as any. A show of 30 more oversized portraits of women from Leibovitz's Womenseries and book opens Thursday with a free reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Women's Museum in Fair Park. Invite your mom to see Leibovitz's work--a mix of celebs, working-class gals and the recently notorious Rosie O'Donnell and Martha Stewart. Local photog Misty Keasler will be featured as well. Flay joins Fearing's big cookout

If trapped with only a grill for cooking, Food Network's Bobby Flay is the man we'd want trapped with us. He can prepare just about anything on one and make it look enticing. Plus, that touch of cockiness is more than slightly intriguing. But we digress. Flay and Melting Pot host Aaron Sanchez join The Mansion's Dean Fearing, NBC's Al Roker and a band of Texas chefs, The Barbwires, at Fearing's annual Summer Barbecue Fest, sponsored this year by Gourmet Magazine. Participating chefs grill up their specialties, with proceeds from the event benefiting TACA, which provides funding for the performing arts. The event cooks from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday in The Mansion on Turtle Creek's circle drive. Tickets are $250. Flay and Sanchez will also offer exclusive cooking demos from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Class space is limited, so $150 reservations are required. Call 214-443-4750. --Merritt Martin
