Milton Mapes, Magnolia Summer, Pleasant Grove

Friday, July 30 & Saturday, July 31

If you like Pleasant Grove, then you'll love Milton Mapes and Magnolia Summer! Lord help me if some marketing company actually steals that line for a press quote, but cheesiness aside, it's an accurate recommendation that you can take advantage of at Barley House. Austin's Milton Mapes smothers a plate of Whiskeytown with finely diced Neil Young, while St. Louis' Magnolia Summer sounds like Jay Bennett-era Wilco if they were fronted by a Valium-dosed Gordon Gano from Violent Femmes. The slow-fried roots sound of both out-of-towners should sit nicely with a glass of Pleasant Grove's sugary country-rock.
