Some parts of Fair Park are wild, and sometimes Dallas temperatures dip below 60 degrees. That's a good enough excuse for The Dallas Museum of Natural History to host its 10th Annual Dinner in the Wild event and call it "North to Alaska," the museum's vision of roughing it, subzero-style. The theme, based on the Alaskan expeditions and research that Dr. Tony Fiorillo and his staff conduct each year, is supported with Alaskan cruise and salmon fishing raffle prizes and an arctic chic dress code. Luxury cars and wine tastings are up for bids by those who prefer home to Nome. The evening includes a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, and dinner. Proceeds benefit the Dallas Museum of Natural History. Dinner in the Wild begins at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Tower Building in Fair Park, 3809 Grand Ave. Admission is $150. This spring, knowing that King Cobra isn't a hit at dinner parties, I asked my local liquor-store man for advice. "Try that Beaujolais Nouveau. It's on sale for $3.99 each." But, sir, I told him, even I know that BN is a wine meant to be drunk as soon as it is picked and pressed, at midnight on the third Thursday of every November. It lacks the tannins that ripen with age. It's a festive, light, fruity, delicious wine, but not months later. He said, shhh, few know it tastes just as good six months later. But I was scared.
