Our best friend let us in on her family's Chinese New Year celebration one year. After meeting distant relatives, her ma's card-playing buddies and about 20 other people, we settled down for the never-ending feast. The food was amazing, as was her mother's ability to de-bone a whole chicken and re-stuff it without ever taking it apart. We left hours later with pockets full of ginger candy and small red envelopes that we later discovered held various green bills. We made friends, ate and made a profit--all with our shoes waiting neatly in the entryway. The Crow Collection of Asian Art celebrates the Chinese New Year a little differently, but just as festively. From 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, the Trammell Crow Center Plaza will serve as the setting for martial arts demonstrations and the lion dance performed by students of the JK Wong Tai Chi and Kung Fu Academy. Attendees might not get envelopes of fivers, but the event is free. Call 214-979-6430.
