You can write a check and feel good. You can walk a 5K, feel a little tired and eat some free food. Or you can walk 60 miles in three days during a Texas summer, feel really tired and really, really sweaty and possibly earn sainthood. That's the Breast Cancer 3-Day, which takes place from June 10 to June 12 in Dallas-Fort Worth. Each night is spent in Mobile City, a cluster of tents, hot showers and hot food. There are also pit stops with food, water and bathrooms along the route. It's not a race; the competition comes from teams raising money to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Find out more with the 3-Day Expo, an orientation and information session taking place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Gilley's Dallas, 1135 S. Lamar St. Learn about what clothes and shoes are suggested, find a team or found one of your own and meet mentors who will answer any other questions. When we found out about the St. Paddy's Dash Down Greenville, we invented tons of ideas way better than the actual event. Drunkards race each other in Razor scooters while avoiding passed-out bodies next to Lower Greenville bars and pubs; the winner gets a free keg of green beer. People dressed as leprechauns dash down the street while avoiding excited, net-wielding frat boys who try to nab the runners before they finish. Chicks in green bikinis race on motorcycles--'nuff said. The actual dash, which starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Two Rows Restaurant and Brewery, 5500 Greenville Ave., is merely a 5K run for prize money and trophies.
