Bay Area-based MC Lyrics Born has one of underground hip-hop's most playful, distinctive voices: a deep, resonant rumble full of little cracks and hoarse spots, able to swing from nimble syllable-stepping to a laid-back drawl. This helps on a remix record like Same !@#$ Different Day, LB's loose reimagining of his 2003 solo debut, Later That Day...: The rapper adapts easily to funky new settings given his tunes by Dan the Automator, Morcheeba, DJ Shadow, the Lifesavas' Jumbo and Chief Xcel of Blackalicious. Lyrics Born is on tour with a four-piece live band and a backing vocalist, so expect further adaptation tonight.
