Shannon McNally

Monday, August 1, at Gypsy Tea Room's "Tea Room"

When Bob Dylan's most favored axman handles your album, you have to be doing something right. On her new album, Geronimo, produced by Austinite Charlie Sexton, singer-songwriter Shannon McNally explores the same crossroads of country, soul and rock frequented by sisters Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer, singing in a voice sultry enough to steam up your car windows (and maybe even get you pregnant). Aided by Sexton's stately arrangements, her songs recall everyone from Bobbie Gentry to The Band, and when she sings from the point of view of Geronimo on the title track, McNally sounds more convincing than any white girl should. Austin singer-songwriter Brent Palmer opens.
