8/20 What a bum deal. One minute evicted and the next forced out by the ominous big city of Dallas. But Plush wouldn't be a highly acclaimed alternative gallery if it didn't have a few exciting bumps and bruises here and there. Let's just say those little setbacks add to Plush's already spicy flavor. But now the gallery is settled in at downtown's historic high-rise Manor House Apartments--Plush's fourth location in five years. Its newest exhibit, forces of evil in a bozo nightmare--name that tune--runs from August 20 through September 17. Artists Eric Doeringer and Suzi Matthews of New York are featured at the exhibit among several other talents. There will be a closing reception from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on September 17. Gallery hours are 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays as well as by appointment. Plush is located at 1222 Commerce St., Suite 403. 8/20In the latest installment of GayBINGO Dallas, the charity bingo game with a different campy theme every month, promoters and visitors alike will don togas and emulate the lords of Mount Olympus. But Saturday night's Greek Gods GayBINGO, held at the Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Parkway, could go so much further to gay up the Greeks. For example, why not reenact famous Greek plays with new twists? Odysseus and his crew would have a much easier time ignoring the dangerous Sirens--"You're barking up the wrong tree, laaaadies!" Antigone, the woman who buries her slain brother against the will of a king, could fancy things up by covering her brother not with dust, but with a tasteful arrangement of throw pillows. And Oedipus could just swap things by killing his mother and...nah, we won't go there. We'll just dress in white bedsheets and wait for G-12. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $15. There are many reasons for the existence of bad tattoos. Bad ideas, bad execution and cartoon characters are just a few. But tattoos and tattoo culture can also be high art. Famous tattoo artists from across the country showcase their work for inspiration and admiration at Flash in the Pan: The Amazing Hancock Brothers and Art of the Tattoo Culture. Also exhibiting is a glimpse at the Hancock Brothers' trippy land of Texanesia, which features clowns, broken typewriters and "wrasslers" galore. Flash in the Pan opens with a party and live music from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. August 20 and runs through October 16 at the Webb Gallery, 209-211 W. Franklin St., Waxahachie. Admission is free.
