Eve Ensler is moving up. So long, vagina--now she's tackling the stomach. In physical distance, she's traveled mere inches. But in terms of recognition and success, she's staring down from a pretty tall peak. The Vagina Monologues, whose title is self-explanatory, was an international hit, and now Ensler's back with The Good Body, a show born of her hatred for that most problematic of problem areas: her stomach. Obsessed with her belly, Ensler began to notice how women worldwide were preoccupied with various body parts--and the lengths some would take to transform these features. Instead of a tummy tuck or an eating disorder, Ensler's navel-gazing led to a work with a social conscience. "This play is an expression of my hope, my desire, that we will all refuse to be a corporate-cutout Barbie..." she writes. For those with poor body image, that's a rather tall order. Even with all the pain, sweat and abuse that it takes to change one's body, it's even harder to change one's mind. Dallas Summer Musicals presents The Good Bodyat the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St., from December 6 through December 11 at 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, with matinees at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. So, we get this press release about a show called Santa Chaos and the Iceberg Dungeon to be performed by "multimedia ensemble" BL Lacerta at the Project X Studio at South Side on Lamar on December 3. Diligently, we started calling around to find out what the show is about. Turns out that "What is it?" is not a question easily applied to BL Lacerta, four musicians who play just about anything--regular instruments, synthesizers, found objects--and mix in video clips along with audience participation. What is Santa Chaos about? "The title suggests a Harry Potter spoof, holiday spoof, whatever," writes ensemble member Kim Corbet. "As to the shape and direction of the performance...as always, it depends on the evening, the audience, what we had for lunch." The show is 7:30 p.m. at 1409 S. Lamar St., Studio 003.
