Bass-tastic!

Outdoorspeople unite

It's hard to understand how buying meat and fish at Central Market is upscale, cultured and classy while bagging it yourself is classified as low-class and white trash. The camouflage culture seems to be as easy a target as a fish in a barrel for mockery, but in truth, many hunters and fishers are as image- and brand-conscious as anyone in Neiman's. So events such as The 2007 Texas Fishing, Hunting and Outdoors Show are huge, and this one includes displays of the latest in fishing equipment, baits, boats, motors and clothing, along with antique fishing equipment for collectors. Seminars, roundtable discussions and food products are also featured along with a master falconer, wildlife rehabilitator and game bird breeder showcasing up to 20 raptors from a variety of habitats. Indoor wonderments such as mobile fish tanks are on hand where anglers and kids can either demonstrate or try out outdoor techniques in tanks filled with fish and many thousands of gallons of water. Not quite shooting fish in a barrel, but close. Get out from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Arlington Convention Center, 1200 Ballpark Way. Admission is $3 to $7. Visit texasfishingshow.com.
Thu., Jan. 4, 2-9 p.m.; Fri., Jan. 5, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sat., Jan. 6, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sun., Jan. 7, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
