Were I a judge in Saturday's Ugly Teapot Competition at the British Emporium, 140 N. Main St. in Grapevine, I would do a horrible job. I adore ugly teapots. Give me a globby, blobby, flowered mess in putrescent hues any day. I do, however, draw the line at one particular type of creamer/teapot: the animal with open mouth. There is nothing uglier, in my humble opinion, than a cow, cat, pig or other sweet animal vomiting forth the beverage in which I'm about to partake. That wins my "ugly" vote every time...because you asked and all. Bring heinous and frightful teapots out of the cupboard and into the British Emporium to trade in for 20 percent off a new inoffensive version from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The ugliest specimen just might receive prizes, and everyone receives a cup of tea and a biscuit just for braving the sights. (And don't worry, ugly teapots may be entered into the contest even if, like us, you would never want to trade them in.) Call 817-421-2311 or visit www.british-emporium.com.
