Wedge of Ice

Hamill and her hair skate Bass Hall

When I was a girl, I couldn't decide which was cooler, Dorothy Hamill's hair or her ice-skating. Sure, she was a World Champion and Olympic gold medalist, but that wedge was awesome, and I cut my own hair to match it; I even had a bottle of the Short & Sassy shampoo she endorsed. Sadly, my attempts to imitate her on-ice feats were far less successful, as I regularly busted my ass at the Prestonwood ice rink when trying to imitate her "Hamill camel" spin. This weekend, Hamill and crew arrive in Fort Worth to perform in Casa Mañana's Broadway on Ice—-and the 30 intervening years have not slowed her down. She'll be skating to show tunes from Rent, Les Misérables and Chicago with Davis Gaines (a former Phantom of the Opera star) and 20 other skaters. Their 40 numbers include "All That Jazz" and an extended tribute to George and Ira Gershwin. So feather your hair with Aqua Net and relive the glory days of stylish skating. Broadway on Ice takes place Thursday through Sunday. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday. Bass Performance Hall is located at Fourth and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth. Tickets are $20 to $70. Call 817-212-4280 or visit www.casamanana.org.
Wednesdays, Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Fri., Jan. 27, 8 p.m.; Sat., Jan. 28, 2 & 8 p.m.; Sun., Jan. 29, 2 & 7 p.m. Starts: Jan. 25. Continues through Jan. 29
