Dress to Impress

Society underrates Hans Christian Andersen's brilliance. Just look to his fairy tale The Emperor's New Clothes for an example. The story is about a vain and greedy leader so obsessed with his appearance that he spends all his time and money on the quest to be well-dressed. And while it's true that the tale is recognized for its statement about the ignorance of the ruling class and its blind followers, readers have largely ignored the true genius of the piece. Yes, the so-called swindlers of the story, the exceedingly savvy businessmen who sell the emperor a suit made of nothing, haven't gotten their due. Their story should be a case study in any business course worth its salt: Prey on the vain, and ye shall be paid. At least the cosmetic-surgery industry has taken note. Laugh at the emperor and appreciate the crafty "tailors" during a musical version of The Emperor's New Clothes presented by Casa Mañana Theatre, 3101 W. Lancaster in Fort Worth. The show runs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through February 26. Tickets are $13 to $15. Call 817-332-2272 or visit casamanana.org.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: Feb. 10. Continues through Feb. 26
