The latest member show at 500X Gallery is a test of perception and an exploration of rarely seen images by Diane Sikes, Shannon Sullivan and Brad Wehring. Sikes fashions objects out of submerged memories that render a fuzzy déjà vu-like lack of clarity for the viewer. Sullivan's pieces are more concrete in nature if not equally foreign to the naked eye. Her diptych works in clay, resin and Plexiglas are reminiscent of examining human cells and strings of bacteria under a microscope. What was once boring and hard to grasp in our high school biology class takes on a surreal, unexpected beauty when mounted on a wall. Wehring's previous mixed-media pieces have been more playful constructs with slightly eerie undertones. His current portraiture paintings should have a ghostly yet playfully creepy aspect if he continues working in his previous tone. The exhibit is on display through February 26 at the 500X Gallery, 500 Exposition Ave. Gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. and weekdays by appointment. Admission is free. Call 214-828-1111 or visit 500x.org.
Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: Feb. 11. Continues through Feb. 26
