Step into the Light

Many artists gather their inspiration from trips to new places. Sean Scully's Wall of Light, for instance, was inspired by a trip to Mexico. On display at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St., Wall of Light is based on what Scully recalls from this trip--especially the way that ancient Mayan ruins were affected by different stages of light and shadow. One of the pieces from the series, "Wall of Light Desert Night," consists of 30 rectangles painted in shades of blue and tan pieced together in a geometric fashion that contrasts the organic muse. The series contains oils, pastels, watercolors and aqua-tints and continues to expand as Scully takes more memorably lit vacations. Wall of Light is on display through May 28.
