It's surprising that Forrest Gump made the lineup of the Quick Comedy and Cocktails night at the Lakewood. I wouldn't consider a three-hour movie about a slow-witted Southerner (containing 30 solid minutes of shrimp recipes) a "quick" comedy. And the timing couldn’t be worse. Every bite of that Valentine's Day chocolate sweetheart sampler is an unkind reminder of the film’s most nauseating "life is unpredictable" metaphor. Nevertheless, America's favorite and most historically relevant mentally challenged slogan machine makes his long-distance run onto the big screen this Tuesday night. You know, my mother also said that life is like a box of chocolates: It seems like a sweet idea until you realize you're just licking sugar off of someone's nuts. Or something like that. Forrest Gump starts at 8 p.m. this Tuesday at the Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Parkway. Tickets and well drinks are $3 each. Call 214-821-7469 or visit lakewoodtheater.com.
