I Take Me to Be...

The DTC is married to the stage

Of course they voted down the Robin Hood tax plan—there's no name recognition attached to that kind of charity. Nevertheless, there is still good to come out of the Park Cities. Let's see, there's the Jimmy Choo shoe store and the Jean Connection. And we can't forget the police force…It doesn't matter if you're Jerry Jones or a little old lady—we're all subject to arrest in the PC. But then there's Park Cities product Doug Wright, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright. He wrote the award-winning play Quills, as well as titles such as The Stonewater Rapture, Watbanaland, Buzzsaw Berkeley and Unwrap Your Candy. Now through March 26, the Dallas Theater Center will present Wright's Tony Award-winning play, I Am My Own Wife, at the Kalita Humphreys Theater, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd. I Am My Own Wife is the true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, an East German transvestite who lived out life between two of the most repressive regimes—the Nazis and the communists—all while wearing a strand of pearls. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 7:30 p.m. select Sunday evenings. Ticket prices range from $15 to $60. Call 214-522-8499 or visit dallastheatercenter.org.
Tuesdays-Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: March 2. Continues through March 26
