San Fran got the shaft

Set against the backdrop of the 1906 quake, the movie San Francisco (1936) starred Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald and Spencer Tracy. Nominated for six Oscars, it won only best sound recording. Tracy lost as best actor but was the first to win back-to-back Oscars for Captains Courageous (1937) and Boys Town (1938). Gable won for It Happened One Night (1934) but lost for Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) and Gone With the Wind (1939). Life ain't fair for the City by the Bay.
