Rock On

Spoken in the voice of movie-trailer guy: "In a world...where evil dwells and bad deeds are rewarded...one man..."—cue an image of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson walking with a torn, bloody shirt and two oversized pistols—"must muster the courage to protect one Jew"—and here's the shot of Mel Brooks gasping as an explosion goes off behind his bald head—"from a fate far worse than persecution. The Rock and the Rabbi. Summer 2007.” Unfortunately, this isn't real—the local stage production of R&R at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St., is a low-key musical, modernizing the biblical tale of Peter the fisherman and Jesus with humor and acoustic songs, not WWE superstars and explosions. The performance is probably more fitting—and a helluva lot less sacrilegious—in its musical form anyway. The show runs Tuesday through March 12. Tickets are $12 and up.
