Bloomin' Sunday

Art is in season at the DMA

With such a mild winter this year, it's hard to imagine seasons at all. You always hear that Texas weather can change on the turn of a dime, but in reality it just goes from muggy to hot and back again. Before the dreaded summer arrives and the muggy disappears, embrace the short and sweet season known as spring and attend the Art In Bloom 2006 Festival and Floral Symposium. The two-day celebration will begin with a Sunday Jazz Brunch in the fantastic Seventeen Seventeen restaurant and include a Floral Master Class, Monday's symposium with keynote speaker Rene van Rems (author of Rene's Bouquets: A Guide to Euro-Style Hand-Tied Bouquets) and a floral fashion presentation (reservations are required for all of these events). But for those of us who don't have the time (or the pocketbook) to attend the events, Sunda'’s Family Day is a nice way to take it easy and smell the roses. There will be activities for the whole family such as storytelling, arts and crafts, and performances by Dallas' own Ollimpaxqui Ballet Company. And for those who haven't taken a tour of the DMA's collection since a middle school field trip, there will be docent-guided tours of selected floral works from the permanent collection. Art In Bloom Family Day takes place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Dallas Museum of Art, 1717 N. Harwood St. All family events are free with museum admission. Call 214-922-1200.
Sun., March 26; Mon., March 27
