There's nothing more therapeutic than beating on something loud and hard...and with feeling. Percussion is timeless, universal instrumentation. It's how we all unleash pain and joy, frustration and exultationwhether by sticks on a log, broomsticks on trashcans, wooden spoons on pans or palms on a steering wheel. The world is our drum, and we set our own beat. This week the Dallas Symphony Orchestra brings us world-renowned percussion genius Colin Currie. He premiered Evelyn Glennie's work here a few years ago; now this Scottish musical athlete is back to introduce Dallas to Jennifer Higdon's Percussion Concerto in a wild performance between 20 different percussion instruments set across the stage. If you haven't seen Currie perform live, you don't know the power of rhythm. Currie joins guest conductor Roberto Minczuk Thursday through Sunday at the Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. Call 214-692-0203 or visit DallasSymphony.com.
