These days, holiday observance has given way to social fun, and this weekend is no exception. You'll be likely to find more people celebrating outside with an egg hunt than inside a church (for one of the two days of the year that they actually attend a service). How "He is risen" is related to colored eggs and marshmallow Peeps is a mystery to me, but they both say "Easter is here" all the same. Confusing as it may be, the commercialization of Easter allows for us non-religious types to have fun too. Leave it to the Turtle Creek Association to entertain (and puzzle) us just a bit more with Easter in the Park with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the 21st Annual Pooch Parade and Costume Contest. What a sight it'll be—everyone dressed in their Sunday best while chomping on a corn dog (can you say "fair food"?) and walking a poodle dressed like a lion. Take all of your dog-fearing friends to the event and bribe them with a funnel cake picnic—it's hard to be afraid of dogs once you see them wearing Easter bonnets and bumblebee wings. Your head will be spinning by the end of the afternoon, but trust me, it'll be worth it. Easter in the Park is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 16 at Lee Park on Turtle Creek Blvd. (between Lemmon Avenue and north of Hall Street). Free to the public. Visit www.turtlecreekassociation.org.
