Some girls grow up to become Miss America, and some girls grow up to become low-rider beauty queens. That, more or less, is the subject of Latino playwright Cristobal Beal's new comedy, Miss Hell on Heels—Low Rider Queen. The play tells the story of two girls, Mona and Nita, and what they learn entering a low rider beauty contest—prepping for the interview, dealing with sleazy judges and learning how to use duct tape and Vaseline to cover their blemishes. Beal, who was the winner of the 2001 Fort Worth Hispanic Playwrights' Festival, will present a reading of Miss Hell on Heels 7 p.m. Thursday in the Lillian Bradshaw Gallery, on the fourth floor of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, 1515 Young St. The event is free. Call 214-670-1400.
