Historians believe the Mayans, one of the earliest recorded civilizations in North and Central America, originally grew and developed the cacao leaf, the precursor to cocoa. For that, Spanish explorers thanked them with pain, disease and destruction. Mmm, sweet chocolate! Celebrate the ancient Mayan discovery with the True History of Chocolate lecture at the Dallas Museum of Art's Horchow Auditorium, 1717 N. Harwood St., at 7 p.m. Thursday. Yale University professor Dr. Michael Coe will be on hand to speak of the delicacy's storied history, and afterward, the DMA's Seventeen Seventeen Restaurant will serve up all kinds of tasty brown blobs.
