The Fantasticks find true love

Ah, further proof that parents should never, never, ever meddle in their offsprings' love lives: The Fantasticks. Now I'm not saying that I have experience in this arena. I would never discuss, for example, how my mother tried to hook me up with a prom date through her Wichita Falls branch counterpart, who also had a shamefully dateless child. I would never lament the years I've endured my father encouraging me to hang out with various distant male relatives that had stable jobs and impressive paychecks. Let me script this for you (Dad's parts should be obvious as they are peppered with out-dated slang and wheedling): "He's a sharp, sharp boy, kiddo. Just go to dinner." "But would I find him attractive or even remotely interesting?" "Um, well, sure! Besides, sometimes you can really learn to love." Right. These experiences, which I totally swear I never had, cause me to look at The Fantasticks with great contempt. Two fathers feign a feud to coax their children into a relationship, only to end up in a real feud with all sorts of consequences. But love always prevails, right? Maybe in the Repertory Company Theatre's production, Thursday through May 7 at Richardson's Promenade Theatre. In my reality, however, the 'rents are nothing like Chuck Woolery, so I believe I'll thank them for their efforts and find my own love connection. For those of you that still need evidence, parental matchmaking takes place at 2100 Promenade Center. Tickets are $11 to $14. Call 972-690-5029 or visit rctheatre.com.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: April 21. Continues through May 7
