And the winners are: Now that you've read the official awards results, you should probably get to seeing the winning acts onstage, right? Quite a few have gigs this weekend, so enough with the witty introductions; here's a handy DOMA winner list for your nighttime enjoyment.
Boys Named Sue: Friday, May 12, at AllGood Café
DJ Merritt: Sunday, May 14, at Club DNA
Olospo (Chris Holt): Friday, May 12, at Texas Jive (Denton). Holt says that Olospo has been reconfigured to focus on his solo output, so if you didn't quite like 'em before, try again. Or see him play solo for free at the Barley House on Wednesday, May 17.
the pAper chAse, Fair to Midland: Friday, May 12, at the Granada Theater. The winners of the metal and experimental categories team up to fuck with each other's target audiences.
"Part of it's because of the river," Garcia says, hinting at the inner-tube float down the Guadalupe that is part of the fest. "We wanted it to be vacation-y. We have people flying in from all over the country for this." Something tells me that any future iterations of the HCMA won't be held anywhere near the Trinity...not with tubes, at least. The fest runs Friday through Sunday; visit myspace.com/hcmessaround. Oh, and Bobby Bare Jr. stops in Dallas on his way to San Marcos, so be smart and catch him at the Gypsy Tea Room on Thursday.
