The title of Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery's new exhibit is, in my studied estimation, a misnomer. The collection is titled The Age of Innocence, and it features photos of kids, in all their adorable glory, by Keith Carter, John Albok, Bill Owens and others. Now, it may be just me, but I'm a hell of a lot more innocent now than I ever was when I was a kid. For me, my adolescence would be more appropriately called the "Age of Feigned Innocence," or even better, "The Age of Getting Told On." See, as a kid, you do things to see what will happen, like when you convince your neighbor Jamie to ride his Tonka truck off the roof. You just say the bushes will cushion his fall. You don't know for sure. You certainly don't know that Jamie apparently has very brittle arm bones and wasn't even supposed to be playing with you anymore after the storm drain incident. Adults are too worried about getting sued to "just see what happens"—call it the Age of Cravenness. Catch The Age of Innocence opening reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery, 3115 Routh St. The exhibition runs through July 15.
