True-Crime Tour
What would John N. Bucher think about our endless fascination with Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker? Never heard of him? That's probably because the Hillsboro store owner wasn't depicted in the movie Bonnie and Clyde. Bucher opened his shop one night in 1932 to two men who said they needed guitar strings and took a bullet to the head for his kindness, thanks to the Barrow gang. Guess the cold-blooded execution of a merchant would have mucked up Arthur Penn's romantic tale of two pretty, down-by-law, common folk criminals. Oh, well. Art is art. Reality is reality. So maybe Mr. Bucher will rate a mention at Monday's Running With Bonnie and Clyde, the Dallas Historical Society's annual tour of places linked to the infamous couple. The tour begins at 9 a.m. at the Hall of State in Fair Park and lasts till 2 p.m. Tickets are $35 for society members, $45 for non-members. Call 214-421-4500, ext. 105 to reserve seats.
