Sometin's Fishy

Colleyville goes the way of the koi

If you've ever been to Benihana and marveled at those giant, ugly goldfish swimming around in the pond out front, then you have a lot to learn from the Dallas Koi Kichi Group as it presents its Fourth Annual Koi Show as part of Colleyville's 50th Anniversary Celebration. The show opens with a performance by the Japanese drum group Dondoko Taiko and features exhibits of Japanese landscaping and water gardening along with seminars and question-and-answer sessions for those interested in learning how to raise their own koi. (To tie in with the civic festival, one lucky fish will be designated the 50th Anniversary "Koi-lleyville" koi.) You'll discover an eye-opening set of criteria for judging koi on their colors, patterns and skin quality, and after a while those giant goldfish won't be so ugly—they'll be downright beautiful. The Dallas Koi Show takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Vineyards Antique Mall, 4701 Colleyville Blvd. Call 972-489-6035 or visit dallaskoikichi.org.
Sat., June 3, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sun., June 4, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
