If you've ever been to Benihana and marveled at those giant, ugly goldfish swimming around in the pond out front, then you have a lot to learn from the Dallas Koi Kichi Group as it presents its Fourth Annual Koi Show as part of Colleyville's 50th Anniversary Celebration. The show opens with a performance by the Japanese drum group Dondoko Taiko and features exhibits of Japanese landscaping and water gardening along with seminars and question-and-answer sessions for those interested in learning how to raise their own koi. (To tie in with the civic festival, one lucky fish will be designated the 50th Anniversary "Koi-lleyville" koi.) You'll discover an eye-opening set of criteria for judging koi on their colors, patterns and skin quality, and after a while those giant goldfish won't be so uglythey'll be downright beautiful. The Dallas Koi Show takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Vineyards Antique Mall, 4701 Colleyville Blvd. Call 972-489-6035 or visit dallaskoikichi.org.
