James Frey's fraudulent work, A Million Little Pieces, gained national attention as an Oprah's Book Club pick. When he was outed for conjuring up a significant portion of his so-called "memoirs," Oprah let him have it for "duping" her. Lying is one thing, but duping Oprah is another—rest assured Frey can kiss his burgeoning writing career goodbye. In his columns, Dallas Morning News writer Jerome Weeks critiques novels and discusses the accuracy of fiction writers. On Monday, he presents his talk, Memoirs: True, False, or Oprah? at the Presbyterian Village North Lecture Series, presented by Presbyterian Village North retirement community, 8600 Skyline Drive, and the Emeritus Program of Richland College. Admission is free, and the presentation begins at 7 p.m. To reserve a seat, call 214-355-9000.
Mon., June 12, 7 p.m.
