Tribes of Suburbia

The last time I checked, Santa Fe was in New Mexico, but nevertheless you can still enjoy Santa Fe Days on the Square this weekend in Carrollton. The event features traveling representatives from a host of Native American tribes (including the Navajo, Comanche, Cherokee and Santa Domingo Pueblo) descending on Old Downtown Carrollton (who knew?) for two days of tribal dancing, pottery and whatever else a bunch of Native Americans in full tribal dress can find to do in Carrollton. According to the 2000 Census, Native Americans accounted for a little less than one half of one percent of Carrollton's total population, so I think it's safe to say this will be the biggest powwow the city has ever seen. Santa Fe Days on the Square take place 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in Old Downtown Carrollton, located at the Belt Line Road exit of Interstate 35E. Call 972-242-6453 or visit santafedays.com.
Sat., June 10, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sun., June 11, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
