Acts Now

Many people may not be pleased with the current administration, but that doesn't make them any less "American." In fact, the desire to speak out and speak up is just about as American as it gets. And speaking up doesn't necessarily require vocalization. Take it from artists like Michael Miller, Leslie Wilkes, Greg Metz (already well-known for his expansive and expressive protest intstallations on vivisection, the meat-packing industry and other relevant topics throughout the years) and others, art can often shout as loud as the artist. In the latest exhibition to hit the Barry Whistler Gallery, Patriot Acts tackles the tumultuous political climate and how it affects those artists taking our nation's issues to heart. Works range from small portraits of Lincoln to oversized busts of George W., from resin eagles to graphic paintings that seem to hark back to quilt patterns...or election maps. It's a heavy, diverse mix—kinda like our country. Barry Whistler Gallery is located at 2909-B Canton St. Patriot Acts runs right on through July 4 to July 22. Call 214-939-0242 or visit barrywhistlergallery.com.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: June 17. Continues through July 22
