Idol Watch

Thirty kajillion people can't be wrong, so there must be something good about American Idol. Looks like a saccharine, overlong version of the old Gong Show to me, but I'm obviously missing something. And contemporary dance? That's the one with the hippies flailing around in bare feet, right? Not my cup of cyanide. Nevertheless, somehow dancer Mary Cochran mixes the two with "American Idols: The Interplay of Artists and Class in America," a lecture combined with her solo performance of Discipline Specific Academic Rap. If that doesn't sound like the ninth circle of hell to you--i.e. you're not a fellow Philistine--check it out at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the 3rd Annual Modern Dance Festival at The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St. in Fort Worth.
Tue., June 27, 7 p.m.
