Let's Go Bowling

Some films are instant cult classics, quick to rally legions of loyal followers to large conventions, fanzines and Web sites. Unfortunately, embarrassing costumes and makeup are usually involved when conjuring Siths, Wookies, Klingons and Vulcans. But in 1998 the cult scene achieved a new level of cool when Jeff Bridges immortalized The Dude in Joel and Ethan Coen's The Big Lebowski. Annual Lebowski Fests are now held every year in Louisville, Kentucky, and beyond (www.lebowskifest.com). "Achievers" sip White Russians and hold bowling competitions in flip-flops, cowboy boots or black leather—pinky toes and coffee cans optional. Dallas has a little catching up to do, so gather 'round the rug with Maude, Bunny, Jesus and the nihilists as Inwood Theatre's Midnight Movie rolls out The Big Lebowski this weekend. The Dude will abide Friday and Saturday. The theater is located at 5458 W. Lovers Lane. Call 214-764-9106 or visit landmarktheaters.com.
