Dogs are playing the winning hand

You know the painting--dogs hunkered down around the poker table having a grand old time. Thanks to the little poodle barmaid's drinks, the rest of the players are oblivious to the two English Bulldogs sneakily passing aces to each other. What a pair of cheaters. But who would play that game straight? A Dalmatian, of course. Fair and square. With profits used for good, no less. Just think--if dogs really could play cards in today’s Texas Hold 'Em-crazed culture, they could really make some changes. No more strays running around; no more shelters filled to capacity. Unfortunately, paws and an inherent inability to understand betting makes dog-play impossible, so canines have to rely on the kindness of humans to help them out. Dalmatian Rescue of North Texas, together with Weimaraner Rescue of North Texas, are offering a casino night to benefit our four-legged friends. Every human player will be given $2,000 worth of funny money (and you can always buy more as the night goes on) to play with, and all winnings can be used to purchase prizes at the end of the evening. Mardi Gras Madness Casino Night takes place 7 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Tickets are $35 per person and include two drink tickets, appetizers and the aforementioned funny money. Call 972-250-DALS or visit dalpal.com.
Sat., July 22, 7 p.m.
