In 1997, Britain's The Full Monty came from nowhere and was nominated for Best Picture and a handful of other Oscars, winning Best Musical/Comedy Score. (It might have snagged more but for the confluence of excellent movies that shoved it out of Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Director: Titanic, As Good As It Gets, L.A. Confidential and Good Will Hunting.) Nothing about the movie or the Broadway musical by David Yazbek and Terrence McNally is subtle. How could it be? Six Joe Schmoes—former steel workers seeking a way out of dead-end lives—decide to stage a strip show. They sing, prance and get naked in hopes of winning back their women and their manhood. The result is laughs, leers and a few tears...and a show that garnered a handful of 2001 Tony Award nominations only to get its heart stomped by The Producers. This summer, Theatre Three tackles presenting the bare-butt capers in the round. The production previews 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The official opening is 7:30 p.m. Monday and the show runs through August 20 with showtimes at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sundays (hooky matinee is 2 p.m. August 16).
