Paul Simon | Ray Davies

Friday, July 21, at Nokia Theatre | Saturday, July 22, at the Gypsy Tea Room

Why smack everyone over the head yet again with the importance of these two acts (which we already did months ago by reviewing their new records, Paul Simon's Surprise and Ray Davies' Other People's Lives)? Because for once, it's easy to lump them together. Both charmed the world in their respective genres in the '60s, both of their long-awaited new albums are mighty fine and, well, both come to town in a timespan of only 24 hours. Really, with Simon's new Brian Eno-assisted leanings and Davies' embracing of post-Kinks modern-pop get-out, their dual resurgence would've been a great double-bill--a live mash-up for the kids. But a back-to-back helping of music overlords isn't so bad, either.
