Death by Theater

See dead people at Richardson Theatre Centre

Some people may think it's a little too soon for a Terri Schiavo musical, but not the fine folks at the Richardson Theatre Centre. Never content to work within the stifling confines of "safe" theater, these brave thespians are bringing the legend of Ol' Black Brains out of the headlines and onto the stage with Six Women With Brain Death (or Expiring Minds Want to Know), a pirate-themed tale of adventure and euthanasia. Actually a rock opera, the show features Jeb Bush, Rick Santorum and a chorus of protesters raising their voices as Schiavo performs a number of technically dazzling Peter Frampton-style guitar solos on her feeding tube/Talk Box...just kidding. In reality, Brain Death deals with the trashy tabloid side of pop culture, tackling everything from self-help books to press-on nails before somehow ending up in a forest where Bambi goes postal with an Uzi. In other words, if you've ever wanted to see a bunch of MADtv skits performed in a community theater setting, this just might be the show for you. Six Women With Brain Death (or Expiring Minds Want to Know) plays Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. through September 9 (with Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. August 20 and September 3) at the Richardson Theatre Centre, 718 Canyon Creek Square. Tickets are $12 to $15. Call 972-699-1130 or visit richardsontheatrecentre.com.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sun., Aug. 20, 3 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 3, 3 p.m. Starts: Aug. 10. Continues through Sept. 9
