Meet the zebras of Fossil Rim
By Julie Lyons
Published: August 10, 2006We are well-acquainted with the zebras at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose. Many times they've stuffed their handsome heads into our car window; beware the zebra sneeze. These days we're more likely to get snot streaks on our windows because we've learned to close them as soon as a zebra approaches. But if you want to get an even more intimate view of zebras than you normally do during the 10-mile safari drive, sign up for this Sunday's "Encounter" with the zebra. Fossil Rim is home to both Grant's and Grevy's zebras, and children ages 5 through 9 will enjoy an opportunity to learn about these surprisingly swift animals (a Grant's zebra can run as fast as 40 mph) and do a craft from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. It costs $25 for a child-adult pair, with additional guests paying $10 each. Reservations are required; call Cheryl at 254-897-2960, extension 0.
