Prisoners of Funny

Escape to the Pocket Sandwich Theatre

Remember the TV show Hogan's Heroes? Those wacky guys at Pocket Sandwich Theatre have another production that spoofs the silly wartime comedy of the '70s, The Great Escape with Steve McQueen and the granddaddy of all POW movies, Stalag 17. Allied POWs try to outsmart, out-snoop and outlast their captors, who are eerily reminiscent of the constipated Colonel Klink and Sergeant Schuuuuultz! Zaniness ensues as a scantily clad fraulein in black knee-high leather boots with a riding crop vies for attention with a young maiden channeling Heidi, complete with blond pigtails and a dirndl. Bob Crane, eat your heart out. Script by Sean Freeman and Chris Irby, directed by Dennis Millegan. Catch The Great Escape From Stalag 18 at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at the Pocket Sandwich Theatre, 5400 E. Mockingbird Lane. Tickets are $8 to $16. Call 214-821-1860.
Thu., Aug. 17, 8 p.m.; Fri., Aug. 18, 8 p.m.; Sat., Aug. 19, 8 p.m.
