Condition Red

Bodily fluids and the big board hit the big screen

Remember the good old days, when people could take nail clippers (and nail polish for that matter) onto a plane and the only people we seemed to hate were those red commies? Unfortunately the fear of Russian nuclear annihilation has transitioned into one of a terrorist-based World War III, and we long for a time when we actually knew who our enemies were. Let Stanley Kubrick remind you as you take a walk down memory lane with the 1964 classic Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. As an American general goes certifiably bonkers and launches the world into nuclear war, the War Room is at comical full alert, featuring Peter Sellers in three of his best roles: Mandrake the British Captain, huggable president Merkin Muffley (delivering one of film's best lines, "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!") and the eponymous Dr. Strangelove, the Doomsday Machine expert and former Hitler cheerleader. Enjoy the granddaddy of all black comedies as you kick back with a few drinks and see why The American Film Institute named it the third-funniest movie of all time. Check out the maddening midnight screenings of Dr. Strangelove Friday and Saturday at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane. Tickets are $8. Call 214-764-9106 or visit landmarktheatres.com.
